Westliff on Sea

Westcliff on SeaLocated conveniently between Chalkwell and Southend, Westcliff offers a wide range of amenities, entertainment and transport links with easy access to the A127 and A13. The area offers a diverse range of properties, many of which retain original period features from when they were built. Southend University Hospital is also located in Westcliff.

Westcliff on SeaHamlet Court Road is Westcliff's main shopping area. Established businesses, some with over 100 years of history trade here. In years gone by, Hamlet Court Road was known as the "Bond Street of Essex", thanks to upmarket stores and availability of designer goods. The economic recessions of the 1980s and 1990s saw the area decline. However the road underwent a £1 million regeneration in the early 2000s and a further regeneration in 2010. The street is now known for a large number of restaurants.

The main London Road which connects Westcliff to Southend and Chalkwell is a feast of trade shops, take aways, pubs, supermarkets and car showrooms.

Westcliff is also home to the area's largest casino, The Genting Club, located along Western Esplanade. Two of the region’s largest concert venues, The Cliffs Pavilion and The Palace Theatre are also located in Westcliff. Boasting an array of music concerts, comedy acts and professional shows all year round, with the latter holding a maximum capacity of 1,630 .

Rossi, the famous ice cream makers also has its flagship art deco store here, where over 20 flavours can be sampled. In recent years a number of bistros and restaurants have opened, predominately along Western Esplanade, allowing diners to experience local produce all year round. Westcliff now has its own annual 'Art Trail', where artists exhibit their work in shops and cafes mainly on Hamlet Court Road and London Road. Westcliff is also home to a new arts project TAP, situated at the old Water Works on North Road.

Getting here

Westcliff is served by the reliable c2c train line, operated by National Express. The line runs from Shoeburyness to London Fenchurch Street calling at stations such as Benfleet, Basildon and Upminster along the way. Trains operate every 15 minutes during the day however are more frequent during rush hour.

Westcliff also has good bus links to surrounding towns, mainly via London Road, with buses operated by Arriva providing access to Southend, Basildon and the towns in between. Westcliff can be accessed by car via the A127 or A13, both of which run through the town.

Education

There are three main secondary schools and four primary schools as well as an array of nurseries located in the Westcliff area. The Grammar Schools, Westcliff High School for Boys and Westcliff High School for Girls consistently achieve excellent results and are regularly in the top 100 for GCSE and 'A' Levels in national league tables.
